Youth Programs
Recently DeBorah, Andi, and I had a productive Zoom meeting to discuss our Excel Programs, Foundation44 PED, and Awards. As you know, DeBorah is deeply immersed in her program at
Syracuse, which keeps her quite busy until it concludes in the Spring. Meanwhile, Andi and I will focus on developing our Excel Program and exploring how it can integrate with DeBorah’s
work. We’re optimistic about launching three Excel Clubs next year, starting in the fall. More details to come.

Recently, I assisted the Exchange Club of Fontana in establishing a new club, which will officially charter on November 1st. We already have 29 students signed up, with 30 more expressing interest. This clearly shows that students are eager to engage in community service and learn about our mission and activities.

The second item on our agenda was the Awards programs. As we discussed in our meeting, this year we will focus on a single award for our students: the A.C.E. Award. This award honors high school students who have demonstrated exceptional perseverance and dedication in overcoming significant adversities. These remarkable individuals often face substantial physical, emotional, or social challenges, yet many go unrecognized. The challenges they overcome may include physical disabilities, language barriers, experiences of child abuse, delinquency, and substance abuse.

We believe we should focus on just THREE at-risk schools this year. Bonanza, Clark, and Rancho High Schools. By offering counselors the opportunity to offer these kids some kind of reward is awesome. It also gets our Exchange Club of Las Vegas name out and allows us to visit with them on what is an Excel club and the Foundation 44 program next spring. Here is the ACE award program if you want to take a look at it https://exchangecluboflasvegas.org/awards/.

Also, I’ve sent out emails with friendly reminder about dues to those who still show balances.

Las Vegas Club member Richard ‘Dick’ Haworth, who now resides in Prescott, Arizona, is a long time Exchangite who began his 40 years of service as a member of the Riverside Club. The same club of which his Dad had been a member. He was President of his Club, President of the California/Nevada District and District Secretary for four years. He has moved to Arizona to be closer to his daughters. Dick recently made a substantial gift to our charitable fund and he is a great source of Exchange knowledge. He would love to hear from you. -Dave
