Setting the Captives Free Inc. is a beacon of hope nestled in the heart of Southern Nevada. Their mission? Simple yet profound: to end homelessness, one person at a time. Led by the indomitable Evangelist Kim Henderson, this tax-exempt organization works tirelessly to empower people, freeing them from addictions and homelessness. Kim’s vision extended beyond mere survival; she sought to instill a healthy self-image in those she served, reminding them that they were created for greatness.
The statistics are staggering: homelessness had surged, with a 20% increase in Southern Nevada aloneāthe largest in a decade. Over 7,906 people were counted as homeless in January 2024, and an estimated 16,251 were expected to experience homelessness in Clark County throughout the year. The causes were multifaceted: lack of affordable housing, unemployment, poverty, and low wages. Families and single individuals alike faced this harsh reality.
But our walls hope flickered like a candle in the night. They embodied the words of Matthew 25:34ā40, feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, and caring for the sick. Her programs such as the Nightrider and Monday Night Programs aim to serve our homeless community by providing warm meals, compassion, and hope during the darkest hours. became a refuge, their compassion a lifeline. And Evangelist Kim Henderson stood at the forefront, a tireless advocate for those society had forgotten.
On this Monday night, as the sun dipped below the desert horizon, casting shadows on the streets, Kim Hendersonās voice echoed through the Historic Westside corridors. She and her team shared stories of redemption, of lives transformed, and of the inherent worth of every soul. Her unwavering faith fueled her mission, and she believed that even the least among them deserved dignity and love.
And so, in the heart of the desert, where the neon lights of Las Vegas glimmered in the distance “Setting the Captives Free” continued its quiet revolution. Kim Hendersonās legacy was etched not in marble or gold but in the lives she touchedāthe addicts who found sobriety, the families reunited, and the homeless who discovered their purpose.Ā
Kim Henderson and her team have evolved beyond merely setting up a table and handing out food, or driving all around the historic Westside; they have become a beacon of hope, a bridge connecting those who care with those in need. First-time volunteers can glimpse the faces of those they help, witness transformed lives, and join the fight against homelessness. Today, we quietly promise compassion, resilience, and the audacity to believe that change is possible.
And so, the story continues to unfoldāa tale of compassion, resilience, and the relentless pursuit of a world where no one feels hungry. In the desert’s embrace, hope blooms, and the captives find freedom, one person at a time.
